Childhood traumas are difficult to address. It takes a huge amount of courage to talk about such things with anyone, even with a therapist who knows how to help. Therapy is difficult to balance – on the one hand, you have to know that the therapist understands and never discounts the effect the trauma has had on you; on the other hand, you have to know that there is hope for stopping the overwhelming flood of emotion that interferes with your life, and hope for living a “normal” (whatever that means to you) and healthy life.
